This course is set out of Revelstoke, B. Join us and learn how to manage medical emergencies in the mountains during the winter. Not only will we offer a great education, but you will also be able to enjoy skiing the legendary light snow of the Selkirk and Monashee Mountain Ranges via helicopter transportation.

We provide an unmatched, multi-disciplinary approach to winter wilderness medicine and mountain rescue with a focus on companion rescue and improvised rescue skills. This course combines Alpine Skills International Introduction to Backcountry skiing course with a carefully crafted continuing medical education CME curriculum. The didactic and field sections of the CME course were designed to provide medical professional the knowledge and skills apply their medical expertise in the winter wilderness environment.

The course focuses on core winter wilderness topics, common ski and snowboard injuries, avalanche rescue, and patient evacuation strategies. This course is set in the Japanese Alps near Hokkaido, Japan. Not only will we offer a great education, but you will also get to enjoy skiing the legendary deep snows of Japan through old growth Japanese birch and colored maple trees, followed by evenings filled with great camaraderie and Japanese food and culture.

The Yurts are situated in the backcountry for prime access to great skiing and riding. To get to the Yurts, we shuttle our guests and their gear with our snowcat. Guiding, food, and yurt lodging is all provided.

The topics to be covered include diastology, ischemic heart disease, valvular heart disease, application of TEE in clinical practice, and cardiomyopathy. The role of echo relative to the newer imaging modalities will be discussed. There are also afternoon workshops on heart failure, hemodynamics, congenital heart disease, and stress echo. The final workshop will include a series of clinical cases which will focus on integrating various imaging modalities to provide the highest quality of patient care.

The course is designed for the clinician and sonographer who are actively involved in adult echocardiography and wish to gain additional practical experience in these specific areas. Daily reading sessions will provide the opportunity to interpret case studies and to compare and discuss diagnoses with the faculty.
